About this role

Verition Fund Management LLC (“Verition”) is a multi-strategy, multi-manager hedge fund founded in 2008.  Verition focuses on global investment strategies including Global Credit, Global Convertible, Volatility & Capital Structure Arbitrage, Event-Driven Investing, Equity Long/Short & Capital Markets Trading, and Global Quantitative Trading.

Role Overview

Our software engineers tackle some of the most challenging problems in finance. We design the core platforms and infrastructure, build sophisticated risk management tools, and scale distributed systems that analyze exceptional volumes of data in real time. Everything we build is in service of sharpening the firm's trading edge. We focus on high-impact problems aligned to commercial goals, so the work is both technically engaging and personally rewarding. Our engineers are versatile, lead from where they sit, and take on new problems across the stack as we push to be the very best at what we do.

The Platform and Infrastructure group engineers and operates the foundational systems that power every application and business at Verition. Our disciplines span datacenter infrastructure to large-scale cloud services, with a shared goal: providing the most reliable, performant, and modern technology stack possible to accelerate time-to-market for the businesses we support. We work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment where challenging the status quo of our infrastructure is the expectation, not the exception.

Responsibilities

Network Engineering owns the platform that connects every application, trading system, cloud environment, and user at Verition. This is deep, hands-on infrastructure work spanning high-performance datacenter fabrics, cloud networking, internet edge, market connectivity, and automation. The platform is engineered for resiliency, predictable performance, and operational consistency today, while continuously evolving to support the increasingly latency-sensitive demands of a quantitative trading firm. As a Senior Network Platform Engineer, you'll own significant portions of that surface directly—from designing modern datacenter fabrics and optimizing routing convergence to building the tooling and automation that enables the network to operate as a cohesive platform rather than a collection of individual devices.

  • Engineer, operate, and continuously improve the firm's global network platform across private data centers, cloud environments, internet edge, colocation facilities, and market connectivity, holding it to the reliability, performance, and security standards demanded by a quantitative trading environment.
  • Design, build, and evolve modern datacenter fabrics using technologies such as EVPN/VXLAN, BGP, and leaf-spine architectures, emphasizing predictable performance, fast convergence, operational simplicity, and scalability.
  • Engineer high-performance network infrastructure supporting market connectivity, cloud services, and critical production applications, continuously improving latency, resiliency, and operational efficiency.
  • Design and operate resilient routing, switching, WAN, multicast, DNS, load balancing, and internet edge services that provide a stable foundation for the firm's global infrastructure.
  • Measure, analyze, and optimize network performance using telemetry, packet captures, synthetic testing, and performance instrumentation, identifying opportunities to reduce latency, improve convergence, and increase platform resiliency.
  • Build and maintain automation for provisioning, configuration, validation, compliance, and monitoring using Python, APIs, and modern infrastructure management practices.
  • Continuously improve the network platform through automation, standardization, and tooling that reduce operational overhead, improve consistency, and simplify lifecycle management.
  • Own significant portions of the firm's network architecture across datacenter, cloud, WAN, internet edge, DNS, DDoS protection, load balancing, and network observability.
  • Define and enforce network security standards in partnership with Security Engineering, including segmentation, secure routing, encrypted transport, privileged access, and Zero Trust principles.
  • Partner closely with Linux, Windows, Data Center & Fleet Infrastructure, Security Engineering, and Developer Tools & Infrastructure teams to ensure the network platform integrates seamlessly with compute, storage, identity, and application platforms.
  • Drive the evolution of the firm's network architecture by evaluating emerging technologies and modern networking approaches that improve performance, resiliency, scalability, and operational efficiency.
  • Provide production support for the network platform, including participation in an on-call rotation, while driving continuous improvements in reliability, observability, and operational excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in network engineering, infrastructure engineering, or platform engineering supporting enterprise, cloud, service provider, or financial services environments.
  • Advanced experience designing and operating modern IP networks, including BGP, OSPF, EVPN/VXLAN, multicast, QoS, ECMP, and highly available routing architectures.
  • Strong experience designing and operating modern datacenter networks, including leaf-spine architectures, network virtualization, and high-performance Ethernet fabrics.
  • Strong understanding of forwarding behavior, buffering, routing convergence, congestion management, and network performance optimization.
  • Strong experience automating provisioning, configuration, validation, monitoring, and operational workflows using Python, APIs, Git, and modern infrastructure management tools such as Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent.
  • Experience operating hybrid cloud networking across AWS, Azure, or GCP, including Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, Transit Gateway, Cloud WAN, VPC networking, and cloud-native networking services.
  • Experience designing highly available internet edge architectures, including routing policy, WAN connectivity, DDoS mitigation, DNS, load balancing, and traffic engineering.
  • Experience defining and implementing network security architectures, including segmentation, firewalls, secure management infrastructure, and encrypted transport.
  • Experience with distributed systems, observability platforms, streaming telemetry, packet analysis, and infrastructure performance engineering.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a continuous learning mindset, with the ability to evaluate and adopt emerging infrastructure technologies where they provide meaningful operational or business value.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field.
  • Experience designing or operating low-latency or performance-sensitive network infrastructure in financial services, cloud-scale platforms, high-performance computing, or service provider environments.
  • Experience with programmable networking technologies including gNMI, OpenConfig, NETCONF/RESTCONF, streaming telemetry, model-driven automation, and modern network APIs.
  • Experience with cloud-native networking technologies, including Kubernetes networking, Container Network Interfaces (CNI), and service meshes.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux networking sufficient to troubleshoot performance from the switch through the host, including TCP/IP internals, packet capture, NIC tuning, and system-level network troubleshooting.
  • Strong working knowledge of agentic developer productivity tooling and customization such as spec-driven development, MCP servers, and Claude Code sub-agents, skills, and workflows.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional or cross-business engineering initiatives.
  • Experience partnering with quantitative developers and researchers in a finance setting.
  • Contributions to relevant open-source projects.
